The Gasoline Tramp: AROUND THE WORLD ON A MOTORCYCLE (1912-1913

Category:

The long lost true manuscript by the first motorcyclist to adventure around the world on a motorcycle, 1912-1913. From the road around the globe Carl Stearns Clancy, in 1912 and 1913 had submitted reports and photographs eventually researched and published in 2010 as MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURER. As a result of that publication Clancy’s unpublished attempt at a book about his record setting journey surfaced. The draft was researched and edited by world’s authority on Clancy’s ’round the world motorcycle ride and finally published in 2013.

THE GASOLINE TRAMP differs considerably from the MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURER in being a reflection by Clancy after he had completed his record setting ride. He looked at the world as he had time to analyze what he had seen and experienced in the total adventure, not as he was experiencing it in small segments. Adding to his reflections were he himself having aged from a 22 year-old rider on the road to a seasoned adventurer having set a world record.

As Clancy wrote in the closing of THE GASOLINE TRAMP, “I had started a boy, I had come back a man.”
