AN OIL ODYSSEY is the story of a mad-cap motorcycle adventure down the then-only proposed but still-to-be-sanctioned Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (“Pipeline To Nowhere”) linking Azerbaijan to Turkey via Georgia undertaken in August 2000. The team of twenty-odd of Alpha Males (and females!) drawn from a dozen countries forded rivers, climbed mountains and slept in forests along their way, determined to deliver the first barrel of symbolic Caspian crude to the Mediterranean Sea–and on the sidecar of nostalgic Soviet sidecar (IMZ-Ural) motorcycles! The chaotic trip of nearly 2,000 miles resulted in lasting friendships, lasting enmities, at least one marriage…And the construction of the BTC pipeline… Who says geopolitics can’t be fun?
